Seriti hands over vehicles to SAPS in Emalahleni

Reinforcing commitment to supporting our communities and partnering with the government.

Collaboration with SAPS will lead to safe and sustainable communities and the mining environment.

Emalahleni, 13 September 2024: The Seriti Power Community Trust today handed over 6 vehicles to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.

The 3 out of 6 vehicles are fully branded as per SAPS corporate policy manual and furbished with the necessary equipment including radios, cameras, sirens, health and safety equipment as well as service plans and warranties for R3.6 million.

The 3 unmarked vehicles will be utilized to respond to the Presidential call for resources to intentionally intensify its fight against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), which President Cyril Ramaphosa describes as the country’s ‘second pandemic’.

The vehicles donated to SAPS by Seriti

The Seriti Power Community Trust has been set up by Seriti Resources to help provide benefits to host communities and employees through community consultative forums that focus on activities and projects that will improve access to healthcare, education, housing, and basic services.

Mike Teke, Seriti Resources Group Chief Executive Officer said, “Addressing criminality in our communities is critical to ensuring safer, peaceful communities and a sustainable mining environment. We are proud to be collaborating with the SAPS on this project which will benefit our host communities in Mpumalanga including Rural Safety and Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) in Emalahleni, Kriel, Morgenzon, Ogies, Phola and Vosman.”

Seriti’s leadership was joined at the handover by the Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie who said “Today, we witness Seriti display patriotic collaboration by working together with our police to fight crime and GBV. We hope that this donation will inspire other private sectors to also heed to the call of preventing crime in our province”.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi said, “There are no shortcuts in policework. Therefore, these donated vehicles will ensure that there is police visibility in our province, and thus, having a reduction in the police reaction time to crimes reported”.

Executive Mayor of Emalahleni Local Municipality Vusi Nhlapo also expressed that crime invention is one of the crucial pillars of the community trade investment, where Emalahleni, particularly, CBD, becomes crime free.
